Lori brought these links to my attention and I thought there is a strong connection between them and my work.  These drawings are all about  creating a dream like world that doesn't make you choose between whats real and whats not real. You can find Animal people that interact and live normal human lifestyles, demons that cause trouble and  demonstrate human emotion, and even narratives between make-believe creators.

"Mannerisms"

This is a series of drawings I completed over the winter. My concept is based off of stereotypical names that could describe men, ; Cock, Jack ass, Pussy, Rat, Pig. Along with their symbolic animal parts, they also display characteristics and emotions through their expressions that  express what  kind of person they are.

 

Lonliness

Loneliness can be defined as- Loss, separation, homesickness, alienation, not fitting in, disconnection, the need to belong, and the need for community.

For our next drawing assignment we are given the theme loneliness. In this Eisenstein quot, I feel that I can relate to what he is saying. Being an independent student, living in a single apartment, I feel that I become very lonely. What is there to do with no family, or friends around. clean the bathroom, do the dishes, go shopping, read, play a video game, spend the weekend watching movies on netflix. I invest so much of my time entertaining myself, but by the end of the day I am unsatisfied, I want more. So what do I do? Well, sometimes I'll call a friend, a sister, my mother, my dad, anyone who will exchange a few words with me.

Drawing IV- Allegory Of Love

Our first assignment in Drawing 4 was to take a section of Bronzino's Allegory Of Love and blow it up 2 times. In the end all the parts should line up and wah lah a giant recreation of the painting!! In the photograph taken from Kyle's blog against his will or knowledge, you can see all the different materials used, giving the viewer a chance to compare different styles and mediums.

Along with this assignment I did some research on the meaning of this famus painting. Turns out there is no definite answer to what all of this means. In the end you kind of have to make up your own interpretaion or go with someone else's oppinion. In my case, I choose to go with the sex and deceitful pleasure interpretation. So to some this all up in as few words as possible.... Venus is the central figure making out with her son, cupid. Venus is in control of what she is doing, based off of her hand holding his arrow ( symbol of power) above his head. Her legs are also apart and her toung is just about to slip into his mouth, representing her acceptence to his sexuality and his "coming of age"  But if you notice Cupids hand his touching Venus's crown, which could also mean he may have his own motives after all. to the right of them is a charub who is about to throw flowers onto them, this represents folly or pleasure. If you look behind Folly you may notice a young girls face holding a honey comb, but may be surprise to see her body is some sort of creature holding a poisonous creature. this is believed to be deceit. across from deceit is a woman, or man screaming in what looks like anguash. Could it be syphalus from a deceitful lover? perhaps Jeaslosy? in the end there is no real answer. above this person is another ambiguas character. This person is thought to be oblivion who seems to be playing tug awar with father time, who is seen with an hour glass at the right hand corner of the painting. they are looking at each other, both holding up a blue screen that plays as the back drop to the painting. some say this represents the idea that time is fleeting; father time tries to take away the screen, while oblivion  tries to hold it up.
In an essay by Brian  A. Oard he says, " Desire is the motive force of human activity and thus the root cause of anxiety. Desire for sex, for power, for love, for money, for celebrity, for anything really. this is why we do what we do. Desire is the fuel of the world and desire unmasked is the world laid bare." I beleve that the concept to this painting is that love and happines has two sides, one is the facade of joy and folly, and the other is what is fulled by desire, or the real motive, which causes deceit and jealousy.

Andy Kehoe

Andy Kehoe has been inspiring my drawing style ever since I stumbled upon him my freshman year at Suny Cortland. He uses repetition and the theme of animal versus nature throughout his illustrations. I am drawn to his made up animal creatures, and animal people because they are unique and seem to have a certain personality. When I begin a drawing I try to think like Kehoe by using repetition, geometric shapes, and even the way he uses color; dull, hazy, and earthy.

Statement

Several semesters ago I developed an illustrative drawing style that is both gestural and emotional. I find that I have created different characters that express different emotional awkward moments. With this I have developed a concept based on exposing human emotion through these awkward characters. With in these drawings I tend to focus on "private" moments, situations that we would not want a total stranger to witness, yet the viewer can witness. these moments are about depression, loneliness, sex, and frustration. I feel that with this dynamic the viewer can feel strange or maybe even relate to these characters. Along with this I have also been developing techniques and ideas in Ceramics. I am inspired by nature and because of this my forms are very organic and gestural. I am also focusing on the human emotion that a vestal can communicate to its viewer. I am able to do this by controlling the posture of the pot, deciding whether or not it leans, stands up straight, or even slouches. In the end I am faced with the challenge to bring these two worlds together. Throughout this Blog I hope to post pictures of my ceramic work, along with my sketchbook work, and statements describing my path on this journey.
